Yvonne Samelina Cady

Yvonne Samelina Cady, age 97 of Livonia, passed away on April 11, 2023.  She was born on April 29, 1925 in Lafayette, Louisiana to her parents, the late Emelina (née Uebersezig) and Samuel Carruthers.

Yvonne is the beloved and devoted wife of the late Howard Cady; loving mother of three children – Jacqueline (Richard) Corwin, Charlene (Ernest) Shedd and Nelson (Joan) Cady; proud grandmother of Terence (Kelly) Corwin, Russell (Kadie) Shedd, Philip (Amanda) Shedd, Steven Cady, Kristen Cady and Michelle (Kashif Sheikh) Cady and great-grandmother of Everly and Nayif.

Yvonne was born in Lafayette Louisiana but her childhood years were spent in Honduras where her father was an executive with United Fruit Company. Her time in Honduras would lead to a lifelong love of the Spanish language which which she would speak with anyone who knew a few Spanish words.

Yvonne's family moved to California during her teen years. When she was 16 years old she met a handsome young soldier, Howard, at a USO dance. After World War II she married Howard and moved across the country to Howard's home state, Michigan.

Yvonne and Howard had 3 children: Jackie, Charlene and Nelson. Yvonne also kept busy with many other activities including teaching caked decoration, playing tennis and becoming an expert at playing her fancy organ.

Eventually Yvonne put her Spanish skills to good use working as an international secretary for Ford Motor Company for over 20 years.

Yvonne and Howard enjoyed life. They loved to dance. They hosted parties at their home for family and friends. And they loved to travel.

Sadly, Howard passed away in 2000. Yvonne continued to be active. She traveled the world with friends going on many cruises. She also spent time with family and friends in Florida and Michigan.

Now that Yvonne has passed on her family and friends are sad for our loss. But we know Yvonne is in heaven, dancing with Howard and planning her next party.
