William Walter Lancaster, age 84, passed away at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Yspilanti, on Monday, January 9, 2012. William was born in Newberry, Michigan, the son of Walter and Haddie (Cameron) Lancaster, on April 7, 1927. His early years were spent in Newberry, where he graduated from high school. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Navy and trained as an aircraft radio operator. World War II ended before his leaving for overseas. After completion of his military enlistment, he enrolled at the University of Michigan where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering. He began work with Philco, which later became a part of Ford Motor Company, in autoneutronics and cruise control devices where he obtained patents. With his wife of 54 years, Doris, traveling the world was a special joy. Doris preceded Bill in death in 2011.
Surviving are his nephews and niece, Bob (Jody) Bonocore, Joe (Phyllis) Bonocore and Josephine Bonocore. Bill was the great uncle to Jennifer (John) Labb and Robert J. Bonocore, brother-in-law to Al (Marge) Stuhlmann, Alice Vespar and Marie Bonocore, and cousin of Robert Cameron.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 10am until the time of a Memorial Service at 11am at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth.
