William D. McNamara, age 85 of Plymouth, went "Home with our Lord" on December 3, 2016. Loving husband of Kathryn. Proud father of Michael, John, Dan (Shannon), and Margie (John) Rocker. Beloved grandfather of Lindsay, Gina, Katie, Ryan, the late Jacob, Sean and Clare. Dear brother of Dorothy (Charles) Neuberg and the late Mildred (Carl) Angelillo.
William was born on January 21, 1931 in Detroit to Eugene and Katharine McNamara, becoming younger brother to Mildred and Dorothy. He grew up in northwest Detroit and graduated from Cooley High School. He was a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, working in an air traffic control tower. Bill was a warm-hearted man of integrity and had many life-long friendships.
On April 15, 1961 he married Kathryn Walbridge at St. Mary’s of Redford, their home parish. After marriage they lived in Detroit where they started their family, having three sons and a daughter. Bill was not only a loving husband, but an extraordinary father. Bill enjoyed many activities with family including setting time aside to be involved in his kids sports, scouts, camping, canoeing, hunting and just about anything outdoors. By far, his most pleasurable place was spending time with his family at the camp in the Keweenaw Peninsula on the shores of Lake Superior.
He also had his own home remodeling business for over 40 years in Plymouth, where the family relocated in the late 70’s. Upon retirement, he still helped friends and family with many projects, always willing to lend a hand or share his knowledge. When he became a grandparent, he was very involved in their lives, bringing out the youthful joy in him.
