William (Bill) James Crews Jr.

William (Bill) James Crews Jr., a passionate advocate for workers' rights and a beloved member of his community, passed away on December 9, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on March 10, 1949, in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Bill's enduring commitment to labor rights distinguished his career and shaped the lives of many around him.

Bill dedicated a significant portion of his life to the automotive industry as a factory worker at General Motors. An avid member of the United Auto Workers (UAW), he served as President of both the local 262 in Livonia as well as the retirees of the local 262 in Livonia and was an active member of UAW Region 1. His legacy as a passionate activist not only reflects his dedication to his profession but also highlights his unwavering support for fellow workers.

He is survived by his son, William "Jim" James (Tracey) Crews III; daughter, Sarah Smith; and the mother of his children and friend, Dorothy Crews. Bill is also survived by his brothers, Richard (Gerri) Crews and Jarriet Crews, as well as his cherished grandchildren—Donovan Harrison, Jackson Crews, Emma Smith, Abigail Crews, Gracee Smith, and Madeline Crews. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Jackson Crews Jr.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William James Crews Sr., and his mother, Joyce Nadine Crews.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Bill’s life during a visitation on December 14, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, located at 280 S. Main St, Plymouth, MI 48170.

Bill will be remembered for his fervent spirit, dedication to activism, and the profound impact he had on the lives of so many. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
