Wilfred Udell, age 69, passed away at St. Mary Mercy Hospital on Monday, October 10, 2011. Wilfred was born in Alpena, Michigan, on December 15, 1941, the son of William E. and Phyllis Mae (Prevo) Udell. He spent his early years in the Alpena area where he attended school. He enlisted in the United States Army and served for two years. Later he went to work for General Motors at the Willow Run Assembly Plant, from which he retired in 1993, after 32 years of service. When he retired, his position was as a Final Repairman. Wilfred was a member of the Van Buren Eagles Club. He loved anything to do with the woods, especially hunting. While in the Army he was an excellent marksman, earning numerous trophies in pistol shooting.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Melissa) Udell, Rodney (Carmylia) Udell, Lisa Udell-Bowerman, Melanie Hughes, and Michelle (John) Udell-Davis. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Marie. He also leaves 13 grandchildren, several brothers and sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1pm until 9pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11am with the Reverend Drex Morton officiating. Interment will occur on Friday at 1pm at King Settlement Cemetery in Wilson Township, near Alpena.
