Walter Luther Clinansmith

Walter Luther Clinansmith, age 85 of Plymouth, Michigan passed away on July 30, 2023.

He was born on September 27, 1937 in Plymouth, Michigan to his parents, the late Helen Emily (née Lidke) and Walter Leslie Clinansmith.  Walter is the beloved and devoted husband of the late Bertress “Bertie” Clinansmith; loving father of Walter (Dianna) Clinansmith and Helen (Michael) Fein.  He is pre-deceased by his son Kevin Clinansmith.  Proud grandfather of Joshua (Lindsay), Justin (Jessica), Jeffrey (Kaylin) Jacob (Caitlin), Jennifer (Steven fiancé), Jessica, Jake (Courtney) and Brandon, and great-grandfather of Johnathan, Jennieve, Jensen, Owen, River, Emilee and Harper.  He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his brother and sister-in-law Fred and Denise Hermans as well as his special friend Geraldine Anderson.

Walter was the owner of Lyon Oil Company from 1952 to 1970.  He was employed at and retired from General Motors after many years of service.  He was an active member of the Wayne County Conservation Club and avid participant in the hugely popular sport of target shooting.  It was challenging and fun and he truly enjoyed it. 

He also loved to work on his hot rod pickup truck.  Owning, racing, driving and modifying a hot rod truck became extremely popular after World War II and has steadily remained very popular today. He loved his truck, the rich history of the sport of hot-rodding itself and just how much fun he had enjoying what he loved to do.

A private family visitation will be held. 

Graveside service will take place on Thursday, August 3, 2023 beginning at 1:30 P.M. at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton, Michigan.
