Virginia Alberta Doran was born on April 17, 1925, and died on June 27, 2017. She grew up in Michigan and attended the University of Detroit, becoming a teacher in Detroit and Taylor. She married Francis (Fritz) Doran, a Korean War veteran, and they settled in Long Beach, California, returning to Michigan after their second son, John, was born. Virginia and Fritz had four children: Tom, John, Judy, and Jim, and lived most all of their married life in Taylor, Michigan. In later years, they moved to Brighton, where Fritz passed away in 2004. Virginia had 10 beloved grandchildren: Angela, Brendan, Elise, Meaghan, Anna, Evan, Jonathan, Julia, Phillip, and Paxton, and 8 great-grandchildren and counting.
When Fritz had heart disease and cancer, Virginia took good care of him for many years, and they kept traveling, including Arizona, and their favorite destination, Gatlinburg. Virginia loved animals, devoured mystery stories—especially Agatha Christie, traveled all over the world, and had absolute faith in novenas, provided she did them according to the book.
Visitation for Virginia will be Friday, June 30, from 10am-12pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, 48170. From there we will go in procession directly to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Right to Life of Michigan or Pregnancy Help Clinic of Brighton. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
