Vince Magi passed away at Henry Ford Hospital-Macomb on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the age of 86. Vince was born in Detroit on January 29, 1930, the son of Giuseppe and Aurelia ( nee Lauri ) Magi. He attend Detroit public schools graduating from Cooley High School. He continued his education receiving his B.A. from Michigan State University and later his Masters in Education from Wayne State University. Vince was an accomplished baseball player. During his years at Michigan State he served as captain of the team and while in the Army he played for Army as center-fielder in the Pan Am Games. He also played professional ball with the former Washington Senators, both in their farm teams and also in the majors. Besides his abilities playing baseball he was an accomplished hand ball player. He played for years in senior tournaments and was a National Champion in Partners Handball. During his years at MSU Vince was a member of the Lambda Chi fraternity and for his entire life he held a special closeness to the school on the Red Cedar. Vince was an educator, teaching history from 1960 until 1990 in the Detroit Public schools mostly at Cody High School. Canton Township was his residence since 1972 and he was quite active in his church, St. John Neumann, serving as an usher.
In 2009 he lost his beloved wife Karen and is survived by his daughter Lisa and her husband Jason Davis. Two grandchildren, Sydney and Hunter, brother Mario Magi and sister Mary Burdick also survive.
Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Tuesday, April 26th from 2 pm until 8 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the funeral mass at 10:30 am from Resurrection Catholic Church, 48755 Warren Road, Canton. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
