It is with broken hearts that the family of Thomas Patrick McNamara announces his passing after a brief illness on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the age of 74. Born on April 20, 1943 to James and Mary Rose McNamara in The Bronx, NY, Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife Eileen in 2003. He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Colleen Fitzgerald (Ed) of Grosse Pointe Woods, Kathleen McNamara (Michael Ingle) of Westland, and Laurie Lee (Patrick) of Canton. His grandchildren, Sabrina, James, Keegan and Eily will forever miss their doting Grandpa Monster. He is also survived by his sisters Joanie, Eleanor and Patsy, brothers Bob and John as well as many adoring nieces and nephews. Tom is also survived by his best friend and companion, Riley, a short haired miniature dachshund.
After a short stint as a shoe shine boy at Yankee Stadium, and an even shorter one as a boxer, he went on to earn a Master’s Degree and work in finance at General Motors for 40 years. In his retirement he enjoyed playing golf whenever he could, traveling and spending time with his family, who will miss him forever. Tom coached all three of his daughters and many of their friends in soccer. He also enjoyed refereeing the game, which he did for little kids all the way up to semi-pro games.
