Passed away at his home with his family by his side on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the age of 91.
Tom was born in Everett, Kentucky on March 4, 1926, the son of Thomas, Sr. and Jane ( nee Mills.) Asher. He spent his early youth in Kentucky and served on various naval destroyers during World War II.
Upon his discharge he married Virginia Johnson in Kentucky, but they soon came to Michigan where they have resided ever since. They lived in Detroit, Westland, Canton Township and for the past 30 years, have resided in Livonia.
Tom worked for General Motors Hydromatic Plant in Yspilanti from 1952 until his retirement in 1982. He loved to go to the various horse racing tracks in the metro area, DRC, Hazel Park and Northville. Tom and Virginia have been true dog lovers during their years of marriage with "Precious" being their current joy.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia and nieces, Maxine ( Roger ) Elliot and Shirley Jean Saylor. He also leaves behind a dear friend for many years, Dorothy Hoskins and her family.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth.
Tom will be laid to rest at Glen Eden Memorial Park and memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of Westland.
