Passed away in Haslett, Michigan on Sunday, March 24, 2013 with her family beside her, age 91. Stella was born in Brownstown Township the daughter of Adam and Apolonia ( Giorko ) Bierurt. Her education was in Detroit at Sweetest Heart of Mary and also Cass Technical High School and when she was 65 she received her B.A. degree from Madonna University. In 1943 she married George Nastas and together they shared sixty years of marriage. George passed away in 2003. The family had resided in Detroit, later in Livonia, and retired to Brooklyn, Michigan. She and her husband spent winters in Naples, Florida. Stella was an avid reader and enjoyed painting, gardening, traveling and was a great cook. But most of all she was a devoted mother and wife. She is survived by her children George ( Judy ) Nastas III, Robert Nastas, Thomas ( Olga ) Nastas and Laurie Sue ( Gary Scheer ) Nastas. Three grandchildren Danielle Nastas, Lawrence ( Chrystal ) Kniffin and Andrew ( Natasha ) Kniffin. She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary, Anna, Adele, Helen, John and Aloysius. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Schrader- Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 11441 Hubbard ( at Plymouth Road ) Livonia. She will be intered beside her husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. Contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
