Shirley Wenzel passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the age of 87. Shirley was born in Rochester, Minnesota on June 14, 1925 the daughter of Selmar & Ethel ( Darmody ) Golberg. She graduated from Rochester High School and Rochester Junior College before moving to Ann Arbor in 1945. She retired in 1985 from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor where she had been a executive secretary. In 1948 she married James Wenzel and together they shared a 62 year marriage. In 1994 they moved to the Tellico Village at Lenoir City, Tennessee. Jim passed away in 2010. Shirley was a passionate advocate for social justice, serving as a member of Social Action / Social Justice Committee at St. Thomas Church of Lenoir City. She was also a member of the East Tennessee Peacebuilders ( promoting peace world wide ), 5 W's ( Women Welcoming Women Worldwide when they travel ), Democrat Women and Loudon County Democratic Party and the Tellico Roadrunners. Shirley was acknowledged for her cooking and entertaining skills, loved to travel and play bridge. She will always be remembered for her smile for everyone. Shirley is survived her children Michele ( Bob ) Marsh and Peter ( Kate ) Wenzel. She was preceded in death by her two other children, James Wenzel and Ann Lough. Shirley also leaves her greatly loved grandchildren; Bob ( Lori ) Marsh, Kristen ( Justin ) Bauer, Kortney (Rob) Plitteri, Christopher (Kelli) Martin, Heather ( Tim ) Milton, Peter, Stephanie and Erik Wenzel, Ryan Wenzel and James Wenzel III. Nine great grandchildren, Emily Elizabeth Martin, Savannah Milton, Evan Robert Marsh, Kelker and Rutger Wenzel, Leah Marsh, Noah Bauer, Ava Bauer and Isaac Martin. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2pm until 5pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Visitation will continue on Tuesday from 6:30 pm until time of the funeral mass at 7 pm at Resurrection Catholic Church, 48755 Warren Road, Canton. A visitation and scripture service will be held at the Click Funeral Home, 109 Walnut Street, Lenoir City, Tennessee on Monday, May 20, 2013 from 10 am until 12 noon. Committal will follow at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, Knoxville, TN. Contributions are suggested to the Salvation Army or St. Vincent de Paul
