Shirley Ann Rumberger passed away June 8, 2014 at the age of 84. She was born January 26, 1930 in Dearborn, Michigan to Dale and Vera (MacFarland) Losey. Shirley was preceded in death 15 years ago by her beloved husband of over 48 years, John Henry Rumberger. She is the dear mother of Dale Alvin (Virginia) Rumberger, Sherril Lynn (Robert) Slebodnick, Marilyn Louise (Ray) Daugherty, Carolyn Powers, the late John Henry Rumberger Jr. and Frederick (Heidi) Rumberger; Grandmother of Aaron (Jennifer) Rumberger, Lillian Constantine, Ryan (Kristy) Rumberger, Jacqueline (Erik) Batell, Sarah Slebodnick, Spencer Powers, McKenzie Powers, Shaye Rumberger and Lucas John Rumberger; Great grandmother of Daniel, Jacob, Natalie, Theo, Carley, Kylie and Kiera. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Reames, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. Shirley retired 11 months ago as an Executive Administrative Assistant having worked for 2 travel agencies for a while. She then worked at Plymouth Township as Assistant to the Deputy Clerk for 25 years and then moved on to the Ypsilanti School System for a time. Shirley completed her work life at the E.P.A. She was raised in Dexter, Michigan, and then lived in Plymouth most of her life. She graduated from Dexter High School in 1947 where she would ride her horse to school. She also was a cheerleader there. She then attended Cleary Business School for 2 years. While in Dexter, she was quite an equestrian as she rode her horse in parades as well as to school. She loved Plymouth "Music in the Park" and Big Band Music. Shirley and her husband, John Henry loved to dance the Jitterbug. She was also a member of the D.A.R. Most of all, Shirley loved her family - especially her grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be missed by family and friends. A Funeral Service will take place Thursday, June 12, 2014, 11am at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, where friends may visit Wednesday 2pm until 9pm. She will later rest beside her husband in Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice, Ann Arbor., MI.
