Shirley Layton passed away suddenly at St. Mary Mercy Hospital on August 18, 2014 at the age of 79. Shirley was born in Perryville, Missouri on September 10, 1934, the daughter of Troy and Lorene ( nee Prost ) Linebarger. She attended St. Vincent High School there and it was in her senior year she meet her future husband Irvin Layton. After graduation, on October 4, 1952, they married and remained in Missouri for the next three years then they moved to Michigan. The growing family resided in Detroit and then for the last twenty years have resided in Plymouth. Shirley worked for a number of years for K-Mart first at the Beech-Daly - 8 Mile Store then at the 7 Mile - Farmington Road store. She enjoyed working with her hands, and made the best apple pies but her ultimate joy in her life was taking care of her husband and her six children. She is survived by her husband Irvin and children Michael ( Barbara ) Layton, Karen ( John ) Gillis, Alan ( Gail ) Layton, Randall ( Renae ) Layton, Mark ( Terri ) Layton and Timothy Layton,. Also surviving at 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Shirley is also survived by her siblings James ( Sandy ) Linebarger, Virginia Schnurbush, twin sisters Joan ( Bud ) Gray & Joyce ( Kenneth ) Wagner and Rose Mary ( Richard ) Sturm. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Thursday from 3 pm until 8 pm. A Scripture Service will be held a 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road ( at Beck ) Plymouth. A luncheon will follow at the conclusion of mass at The Golden Fox Club Banquet Center at the Fox Hills Golf Course 8768 North Territorial Rd, Plymouth. Burial will take place Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:00am at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
