Sanford Paul Burr, a lifelong resident of Plymouth, passed away February 11, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born in Plymouth July 13, 1926 to George and Mildred Burr. Sanford was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Alice Hallowell Burr in 2011. He is survived by his sons Robert George Burr and Charles Sanford Burr, his sister Margaret Burr (Brian) Kidston, his nieces Katherine Kidston (Paul) Renberg and Suzann (David) Jensen, grand nephews and nieces Andrew (Karah) Jensen, Tyler Jensen, Matthew Jensen, Nicholas Renberg, Karissa Renberg and Elise Renberg and great grand niece and nephew Sofiah Jensen and Cooper David Jensen. Sanford was also preceded in death by his sister Jane Helen Burr in 1944.
Sanford worked in Education for 26 years at Southfield High School, Southfield, Michigan. While there he worked as a teacher, Counselor, Director of Guidance and as Assistant Principal. He then worked at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home for many years as a greeter and good will ambassador. He was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church, Plymouth. Sanford was the Past President of the Plymouth Historical Society, 1978-1980 and 1981-1984, Past President of Plymouth Symphony, served on the Family Service Board and was a Life Member of the Michigan Education Association. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II, 1944-1946. He was with the 661 Field Artillery serving in Europe under General George Patton. Sanford was the fifth generation of his family in Plymouth. He loved Plymouth and the people of Plymouth. He is deeply loved and will be missed by many.A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2016, 1pm at Plymouth First United Methodist Church, 45201 N. Territorial Rd., Plymouth. Friends may visit at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, Monday from 2pm until 7pm and Tuesday at church beginning at12noon. Sanford will be laid to rest beside his wife Ruth at Riverside Cemetery.
