Samuel C. Detrich, age 84 of Plymouth, passed away on August 26, 2018. Born in Lakewood, Ohio on November 9, 1933 to loving parents Earl & Virginia Detrich. Loving husband of 60 years to Martha. Devoted father of Patti (Jeff) Barszcz, Karen Gearns and Brian Detrich. Proud grandfather of Kyle (Erica) Gearns, Maggie Gearns, Jimmy Gearns, Bryan Quinlan, Kelly Quinlan, Ryan Barszcz, Ryan Detrich, Taylor Detrich, Christopher Detrich and Mikayla Detrich. Samuel joined the Merchant Marines in 1953 following graduating high school. In 1956 he would enlist in the United States Army serving as a helicopter mechanic. Sam had a great sense of humor and always had a joke or funny story to share. He had a smile and kind word for everyone he met and spent a lot of his time in service to others. As a long-time member of the Plymouth-Canton Civitan club, he volunteered at Special Olympics, raised money to buy service dogs for people in need, built wheel chair ramps, shoveled snow, built horse-jumps, cleaned up cemeteries and highways, and participated in many other service projects. He packed food for the needy and volunteered at the Plymouth Historical Museum doing handyman projects. Fishing, reading, woodworking, and volunteering were just a few things Samuel enjoyed but most of all spending time with his family was his greatest joy in life.
