Sam J. Phillips, age 86 of Plymouth and formerly of Redford, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2019. Born in Detroit on May 12, 1933 to parents John & Anna Phillips. On June 23, 1957 Sam would marry the love of his life Sophie Popowitz , on August 20, 2014 he would give her back to the Lord after 57 years of marriage. Together they were blessed with five loving children: Jeffrey (Lois) Phillips, Tia Jolie (Robin) Phillips, Daniel (Lori) Phillips, Sandra Kline and Gregory (Suzette) Phillips. Proud grandfather of 15 and great grandfather of 8.
Sam enlisted in the United States Army on December 16, 1953 and proudly served during the Korean War era until September 15, 1955.
Sam took an active interest in the welfare of his community he lived in, so for many decades Sam would be a proud member of the Redford Lions Club.
A devoted and faithful member of Our Lady of Victory Church in Northville. Sam dedicated his life to God and his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home 280 South Main St, Plymouth on Monday, December 16th from 2:00pm-9:00pm.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 17th at 10:30am at Our Lady of Victory Church 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. Sam will lie in state beginning at 10:00am until time of mass. Burial will follow on Wednesday, December 18th at 1:30pm at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI.
