Sallie Marie Roby died peacefully March 27, 2014 after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. She was born February 28, 1932, in New Hudson, Michigan as the middle daughter of William and Hazel Markham, along with her sisters Billie Bidwell and Diana Henderson. In 1949 she married Charles T. (Ted) Roby and they moved to Detroit where they raised five children while Ted served the Detroit Police Department. Billie predeceased her as well as her dearly loved brother-in-law Jack Henderson. In the heydays of the sixties, Sallie returned to college, often attending the same classes with several of her children. Along with her studies, she and Ted were actively involved in stage productions with the Rosedale Community Players. With her education accomplished, Sallie launched successful careers, in advertising and financial planning. She is survived by her family Ted, Mark (PV), David (Penny), Teresa, Joanna Ljovshin and Christine Wright as well as 14 grandchildren, her sister Diana and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, MI on Monday March 31, 2014. Family will receive visitors at 11:00 am with a service at 2 pm. Sallie set the standard for many with her wit, intellect, fierce dedication to her loved ones, and her championing of the underdog. She will be sorely missed.
