Russ Hoisington passed away at his home on July 14, 2012 at the age of 85. Russ was born in Detroit and grew up in Milford, MI. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 when he was 17 years old and in 1951 graduated from Alma College with a degree in Business Administration. After a successful 24 year career with Citizens Insurance, he became the owner of the Finlan Insurance Agency of Plymouth and within a few years he became owner of the Fisher, Wingard & Fortney Insurance Agency. Russ was active in his community and during the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's he served as a member of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, President of the Plymouth Rotary Club, President of the Plymouth YMCA, Chairman of the Board of the Plymouth Salvation Army and volunteered for Meals on Wheels for 7 years. His family was proud of his many years of philanthropy, volunteerism and of his years of blood donations to the Red Cross. Russ was a loving husband and caring father, grandfather and great grandfather and is survived by his beloved wife, Marlene, his children Lesley Castle, Peter and Susan Hoisington, Joseph and Josefina Hoisington, Heather and Jay Brittingham, Linda Gowans and Lisa Shott. Ten wonderful grandchildren, Benjamin, Raymond, Christopher, Dayton, Brittany, Jesse, Tyler, Daniel, Daniel and Cassie and precious great granddaughter, Kirra also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Lucy and his eldest daughter Mary Pamela. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Thursday, from 4pm until time of special remembrances at 6pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Memorial service Friday 11am at Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church 40000 West Six Mile, Northville. Contributions are suggested to St. John's Hospice, the Salvation Army or the Plymouth Rotary Foundation.
