Rowena Alice Kays, age 93, of Canton, formerly of Bloomington, Indiana passed away on July 4, 2022. She was born on June 19, 1929 in Winslow to her parents, the late Ruth (Harper) and Paul Chesser.
She is the wife of the late Joseph L. Kays. They were married on September 17, 1950. She is the mother of Mark (Kim) Kays and the late Kim (Dennis) Dirks; grandmother of Courtney (Nathan) Hulsey, Jeremy (Rachel) Dirks, Steven Kays, Tim (Sarah) Kays, and five great-grandchildren – Jack, Hank, Tyler, Will and Addy Mae.
Rowena loved gardening. She had a green thumb and enjoyed her flowers. She also enjoyed taking time out from her daily routine and spending some time immersed in a good book. Rowena also liked to go “antiquing”. She could always find something during these treasure hunts. Rowena liked to travel too. She enjoyed learning about new places, meeting people and seeking out interesting activities while away from home.
Rowena was a long-time member of the Church of Christ. She always enjoyed spending time with her church family fellowshipping at the church building and in her home.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Winslow, Indiana.
