Ronald C. Gentry, 84, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the company of family - his wife of 63 years, Ann (York) Gentry, sons, Carl W. Gentry, Mark F. Gentry and daughter-in-law, Toni Auletti.
In addition to his wife, Ann and sons, Carl and Mark, Ron is survived by his beloved granddaughter, Grace Gentry, daughters-in-law, Toni Auletti, Mariem Gray, and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was born on June 8, 1937 to Carl Gentry and Mary Alice (Kidder) Gentry in Detroit, Michigan. Both parents preceded him in death as have his brothers, Donald A. Gentry, Richard L. Gentry and sister, Sharon A. (Gentry) Jackson.
He graduated from Pershing High School in Detroit and was employed at Western Electric in Plymouth Michigan before moving to South Bend, Indiana in 1987. Ron retired from Ameritech Distribution Center in Indiana.
Ron loved outdoor life, camping, fishing, target shooting, hiking and cooking for his family. Ron and Ann traveled often, particularly throughout upper and lower Michigan and various other places in the country. He was kind and compassionate, rescuing and providing “forever homes” for numerous stray cats and dogs, and occasionally fostering, caring for and releasing injured wildlife. He loved music, had a beautiful singing voice, and enjoyed listening to Elvis, Leonard Cohen, Willie Nelson, and others.
His family is very grateful for the skilled care and assistance provided by Harbor Lights/Traditions Health Hospice at our home throughout Ron’s last year of failing health.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, June 25th, 2022 at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth Michigan with a gathering of friends and family from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
