Robert S. Lynn Jr. of Northville, died January 6, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born in Memphis Tennessee, home of his favorite entertainer Elvis Presley. His parents moved to Detroit to pursue careers with Ford Motor Company when he was a baby. His father passed shortly afterward and his widowed mother raised him on her own until she remarried his step father when he was 12. In 1949 he graduated from Redford High School.
Robert, who preferred to go by Bob, married his wife Barbara on July 30th, 1965. They enjoyed 53 years together and complemented each other well. He was a very loving father to his daughter Laura and stepchildren Carolyn and Mark. He enjoyed providing them with fun childhood experiences and often took them to amusement parks and lake day trips. He also loved to take his wife Barbara out for ice cream or a “wild goose chase”.
His passion was for tennis. He was an excellent player, loved to compete and was a top player on his league. He never turned down an opportunity to go out for a match. Some other things that made him happy were simple pleasures like boating, searching for the perfect Corvette, and favorite treats of Oreo cookies, a cold Pepsi, and Baskin Robbins chocolate ice cream.
Robert was always a hard worker, never missing a day of work and never a minute late. He was employed as a quality control manager at Ford Motor Company and American Sunroof Corporation. He finally decided to retire at the age of 81 from Detroit Free Press.
He will be remembered for always being lively and fun to be around. Never too serious, loving to joke around and find the humor in any situation. Kidding around with his grandchildren like a big kid himself, you would often find him entertaining them at family get togethers. He was compassionate to animals and always gave loving attention to our pets.
Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather to his family. He will be missed dearly and they will always remember what a gracious, fun loving, easy going man he was.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Lynn, his three loving children Laura (Mark) Picano, Carolyn (Stephen) Tyler, and Mark (Margie) Goff, his 5 precious grandchildren Dominic, Shannon (Eric), Brandon, Austin, and Lexxi, and his cherished great granddaughter Maggie Grace.
Visitation will be Friday, January 12, from 10-11:30am at the Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 40000 6 Mile Road, Northville, 48168.
