Robert S. Kowalski passed away at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the age of 86. Robert was the son of the late Zigmund and Agnes Kowalski. Robert attended and graduated from the University of Detroit High School and University ending his education there with a Masters Degree in Psychology. He worked in the fields of marriage and family psychology and taught psychology at Madonna University. He ended his working career with the Wayne District Court in 2006. Robert enjoyed golfing and never stopped his desire to learn. Reaching into new areas, investigating and reading always occupied him. Other interests including music, not playing, but just relaxing and hearing the beauty of good music. Art, the Impressionistic works of Monet, also brought him much joy. Robert involved himself in his Polish ancestry, learning of its immense culture and delicious cuisine. Yet spending time with his family, enjoying their vacation times in Sarnia, Ontario was a fond pleasure. In March of this year he lost his beloved wife of 37 years, Frances. He is survived by his children James ( Julie ) Santo, Shawn ( Kevin Borsay ) Santo, Melissa ( John ) Lierman and Laura ( Chad ) Petersen. Robert was the proud grandfather of seven, Ryan, Ashley, MacKenzie, Maria Stella, Aidan, Jonathan and his newest granddaughter, Aubrey Frances born just two weeks ago. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth where a Rosary will be said at 7 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 47650 North Territorial Road ( at Beck Road ) Plymouth. Later he will be laid to rest beside his parents at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. The family asks that contributions in Robert's name be given to the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy, 8400 South Cambridge Avenue, Detroit, MI 48221.
