Robert John Marshall, age 84 of Canton, passed away on March 4, 2023. Bob was born on March 11, 1938 in Detroit, MI. After graduating from Holy Redeemer he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He achieved the rank of Sergeant, serving for 4 years before being honorably discharged. He proudly played trumpet in the Marine Corp Band. Bob worked as a supervisor at Federal Screw Works and was a dedicated employee for 42 years.
In 1941 he met a neighborhood girl named Katherine Lahey while riding bikes. They didn’t see each other again until he returned from the Marine Corp. It wasn’t long before they were engaged and later married in May of 1960. They remained married for 46 years until Kay’s death in 2006.
Bob was also preceded in death by his mother, Doris and sister, Theresa.
He is the loving father of the late Carolyn Marshall, Jeffrey Marshall, Deborah (Jack) Wallace, Pamela (Mike) Collins, Cynthia Marshall Gillom, Son-In-Law Kevin Gillom. Bob is also the proud grandfather to Cari (Mike) Wiechers, Alexandra Wallace, Nicholas Wallace, Andrew Collins, Daniel Collins and Noah Gillom.
Bob was an avid reader in his retirement, reading a minimum of 2 books per week. He loved all kinds of music with his favorite being Jazz and Big Band. He was known for being a talented dancer, sweeping everyone off their feet!
Many of his neighbors from back in the day will remember him as the “Lawn Ranger” as his yard was always meticulous.
Bob will be remembered as a kind, gentle and helpful man to many. He had a profound dedication to his family.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, 11:00am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church 44800 Warren Rd, Canton. Mr. Marshall will lie in state beginning 10:30am until time of mass.
Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral 280 South Main St, Plymouth on Thursday from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. A rosary service will be held at 7:00pm. Robert will be laid to rest next to his wife Katherine at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
