Robert J. Stremich

Robert J. Stremich, Bob 87 years old Resident of Westland, Michigan Died March 10, 2011 after a lengthy battle with liver cancer - born on March 7, 1924 in Plymouth, Michigan - Northville High School Class of 1942 - joined the United States Air Force in 1943; was a B-17 crew chief -discharged in 1946; returned to Michigan and began to work for his Uncle Jake at his restaurant, Hillside Inn in Plymouth -married on November 5, 1949 to Lucille Zielasko; married for 61 years -one daughter, Norma-Jean - attended hotel and restaurant management classes at Michigan State University and at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Bob owned and operated Hillside Inn for 32 years until he retired in 1978. Bob was a very active community member in both Plymouth and Westland. -member of the Plymouth Rotary Club since 1962, and served as President from 1975-1976. - Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary International. - member National Restaurant Association for 32 years. - member Plymouth Industrial Development Board, 1954-1970; - member Westland Economic Development Commission, 1986-1992. - developed Anthony's Pond Subdivison - member Divine Savior Catholic Church Bob enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and traveling in his motorhome. He enjoyed cutting the lawn on his riding lawnmower while listening to the radio. He was a wonderful husband, father, uncle and friend. Bob loved to laugh and share business stories. Bob is survived by his wife, Lucille; his daughter, Norma-Jean Forshey and her husband, Bill; his nephews: Richard Zielasko and his wife Gloria; Ronald Funk and his wife Sue; and Roger Funk and his wife Kris; his niece; Gail Ann Maloney and her husband Michael; and several great nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Divine Savior Catholic Church. 39375 Joy Rd, Westland. Friends may visit at church beginning at 11am.
