Robert J. Mundt

September 29, 1938 — November 7, 2015

Robert James Mundt "Bob" was born in 1938 to Herbert and Dorothy Mundt and much of his childhood was spent in Cedar Falls, Iowa and the city of Chicago. He was brother to 4 siblings: Pat Mundt (deceased), Tim Mundt, Kathi Bourke (deceased) and Michael Mundt. Bob served in the Air Force National Guard. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Social Work from Loyola University, Chicago. Bob was retired Area Franchisee for The UPS Store serving the lower half of Michigan. Bob received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The UPS Store and was well known throughout The UPS Store community for his leadership and expertise. He greatly expanded his area as well as provided best practices to fellow franchisees (reminding them they were not running a charity and to price for profit). Bob came to Michigan in 1967 from Chicago to serve as the Plant Supervisor for Kux Manufacturing. He moved up the ladder at Kux and eventually served as president of the company. His family settled in Livonia and moved to Plymouth in 1986. Bob coached soccer, was a master craftsman of pinewood derby cars, produced Cub Scout extreme cakes with his sons, was a Weeblo Scout leader, and was an extremely good Halloween costume maker for his children. He also survived teaching four teenagers to drive. He learned to brew craft beer (Ale on the Trail), was a below average golfer, and loved spending the 4th of July Up North in Frankfort with his family. He took up hosta garden design as a consuming passion in his golden years. He was a master at Scrabble, Trivia Games, Charades, and Balderdash! While in Livonia the family attended St. Collette and St. Edith Parishes. Bob served as a parish council member at St. Edith. Upon moving to Plymouth, the family became active in the Our Lady of Good Counsel parish. Bob was a member the OLGC choir and especially enjoyed singing the Navel Hymn. Bob also served for several years on the Downtown Development Authority in Plymouth. Additionally he served on the Charter Commission for the City of Plymouth. Most recently he was a board member for Catholic Social Services for several years. He was a devoted husband to Molly for forty years prior to her passing. He was the treasured father of Bob (MaryBeth) Mundt, Kathleen (John) Whitney, Peggy (Tim) Morelli, and Peter (Stacey) Mundt. Bob was a wonderful grandfather. He enjoyed singing with his grandchildren and You are My Sunshine and Red River Valley were family favorites. Bob also enjoyed playing with, and attending activities and sporting events with his grandchildren (Meghan and Ryan Morelli, Riley, Rowan, and Jack Mundt, Alaina Mundt, and Molly and Sean Whitney). Bob was a most articulate, pragmatic, and resourceful thinker. He could write and recite a poem in couplets that would have you crying with laughter. He often claimed: He who masters the lexicon wins! One of Bobs life goals was to ensure that his children recognized their own potential and capabilities and use these to their best advantage for family and community. This is something they are passing on to his grandchildren as well. Funeral service Thursday, November 12th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church 47650 North Territorial Rd, Plymouth with visitation beginning at 10:00am until time of funeral mass at 10:30am. Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home 280 South Main St, Plymouth on Wednesday, November 11th from 2:00pm-9:00pm with a rosary service at 7:30pm. Robert will be buried next to his beloved Molly at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob Mundt's memory to The Capuchins, 1820 Mt.
