Robert Edwin FitzPatrick, 79 most loved husband of Lorraine Elias FitzPatrick, father of Erica Hope FitzPatrick and grandfather of Robert Edwin FitzPatrick III, died Sunday, July 7, 2013, at his home. He was born in Detroit to Edwin A. and Erna E.(Guterman). Mr. FitzPatrick is survived, in addition to his wife, daughter and grandson, by his sister, Marylou FitzPatrick Cox. Included among his many life achievements were as Chairman of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners, Executive Director of the Economic Development Corporation of Wayne County, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Growth and Development Corporation and founder of the Suburban Medical Clinic in Livonia, Michigan, a forerunner of the modern out-patient emergency treatment center. He served on many civic and government organizations including the National Association of Counties, Michigan Association of Counties, Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, Metropolitan Detroit Convention Bureau, Detroit-Wayne County Criminal Justice System Council, Governor's Commission on Crime, American Economic Development Council, American Society of Public Administration, Michigan Cancer Foundation, the Metropolitan Detroit Better Business Bureau and a committee of Michigan Blue Cross. He attended Alma College and Florida State University. But, undoubtedly, his most cherished education claim was as a graduate of Mackenzie High School. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11th, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Kenneth Church, 14951 Haggerty Rd.(South of Five Mile Rd.) Plymouth, Michigan. Friends may visit at church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial is private at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
