Robert A. Thatcher of Livonia, passed away at the age of 87, on August 20, 2011. He was born in Detroit, to parents Henry and Carrie Thatcher. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He participated in action at Tarawa, Gilbert Islands, Saipan, Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands. He was wounded in action June 27, 1944, and July 3, 1944; for this he was awarded two Purple Heart Medals. After the war, he went on to work for and retire from Detroit Diesel as an electrician. One of his many hobbies was carpentry -- he even built his summer home in Houghton Lake, Michigan.
Beloved father of Fred (Ann) Thatcher, Claudia Thatcher and Kim (Bob) Paul. Proud grandfather of Bill (Tammy) Thatcher, Carrie Thurlow, Steve Paul and the late Robert Paul. Great grandfather of Kendra, Kayla and Nikolas. Dear brother of Betty Yesalonis. He is preceded in death by his brother, Fred, and his brother-in-law, Gus Yesalonis.
Funeral service Saturday 11:00am from the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Visitation Friday 3-9pm. The United States Marine Corps will render honors at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery following the services at the funeral home.
