Richard Donald Schmidt

Richard Donald Schmidt passed away May 26, 2014 at the age of 71. He was born August 14, 1942 in Plymouth to Donald William and Diane Marie(Juntunen)Schmidt. He is deeply loved and will be missed by his wife of over 50 years Nancy and his children Kimberly Ann Schmidt, Craig Douglas Schmidt, Mark Daniel(Jaimie)Schmidt, Christina Marie(Curtis)Dennison and Charles Matthew(Angela)Schmidt. He is the dear grandfather of Elizabeth Desmarais, Madelynn Schmidt, Kaitlynn Schmidt, Lilynn Schmidt, Timothy Dennison, Emma Dennison, Jameson Schmidt and Quinn Schmidt and brothers David(Sallie)Schmidt, Larry(Lynn)Schmidt and sisters Sandra(William)Matley and Susan Kelly. Richard was a life long resident of Plymouth having been born in the old Plymouth Hospital and graduating from old Plymouth High School in 1960. He was the owner of Schmidt's Roadside on Joy Rd. where they sold flowers, produce and Christmas decorations for 50 years. Richard grew up on the family farm in Canton, Lilley Rd. at Warren Rd. The farm consisted of 400 acres where they raised cattle and at one time were the largest producer of sweet corn in Canton. Richard attended Michigan State University for 2 years where he took a special course in animal husbandry. He was active in the 4-H and had 3 Grand Champion cattle at the State Fair in 1 year. He also belonged to the Michigan Farm Bureau and Wayne County Sportsman Club. Richard loved to hunt and fish but his greatest love was his family. A Funeral Service will take place Friday, May 30, 2014, 10:30am at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth. Friends may visit Wednesday 4pm-9pm, Thursday 2pm-9pm and Friday 9:30am until the time of the service. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
