Rachel L. Davinich passed away at Wynwood of Northville on October 1, 2013 at the age of 92. Rachel was born in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania on January 9, 1921 the daughter of John O. and Rena P. ( Young ) Skiles. Her family moved to Maryland and she graduarted from Sparrows Point High School in Baltimore and then attended the University of Maryland College of Nursing where she obtained her RN degree. In 1942 she joined the United States Army as a nurse and spent time in the Phillippine Islands and also in Australia. During her time in Australia she nursed a naval lieutenant, Michael Davinich, who became her husband in 1945. From 1956 until Michael's death in 2000, the family resided in Rochester. After his passing Rachel moved to Plymouth. Amoung her many interests were geneology, photography, sewing and kniting. She was also an avid reader, specially Westerns. Rachel is survived by her children, Alice Davinich, Vicki ( William ) Davinich-Moran, George L. ( Mary ) Davinich and Judy ( Michael ) Stouffer. She also leaves her grandchildren Paul, Chad, Cathy, Vanessa, Patrick and Christine and seven great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at her church, St. John's Episcopal Church, 574 South Sheldon Road, Plymouth, Saturday, October 12, 2013, 11 am with the Reverend Lisa Tucker Gray officiating. Later she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Mt. Avon Cemetery in Rochester where militray honors will be rendered. The family suggest contributions be made to the Salvation Army.
