Piiamari Riikka Bowers

Piiamari Riikka Bowers (Piia), 52, of Canton, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on January 22, 2025. She was born on August 9, 1972, in Finland and was raised in Marquette, Michigan. She was born to her parents, the late Dr. Maynard and Leenamari (Kangas) Bowers. She was deeply loved and will be missed by her brother Eerik (Jennifer Vargas) Bowers, and her nephew Asher. She is survived by many cousins, a nephew and niece, and her dog “Uuno” and many friends and co-workers who will certainly miss her.

Piiamari graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Albion College. She continued her education and graduated with a Doctorate in Dentistry from the University of Michigan Dental School. She was a very talented and highly skilled dentist. She had two dental practices in Dexter, Michigan – one in traditional dentistry with Dr. Cornish, and the other in Holistic Biological dentistry (Foundational Roots).

When she was not working, a few of her favorite pastimes, other than walking and playing with Uuno, were picking berries, especially with her mother, baking Finnish “Pulla”, making jams, jellies, preserves, and juice for sharing with family and friends, and taking a sauna. She was an enthusiastic gardener and nurtured many plants and vegetables. She grew up learning the Finnish language from her mother, who passed on many Finnish traditions and recipes to her and her brother.

As a Physician, Dr. Bowers understood the value of certain foods, especially berries and organic vegetables, as well as the use of supplements. Promoting the knowledge of the multitude of health benefits, such as how berries are full of antioxidants, vegetables are full of vitamins, and beneficial uses of supplements were shared with her patients. She explained to them how they work everywhere in our bodies. She also shared how the health of our mouth is intimately related to the health and wellness of our entire body.

She used that approach as she created her second practice, using holistic, biological, and more natural ways to promote oral health and gut health, promoting a safe way to remove mercury fillings, the use of ozone to help with oral health, as well as other things, including biohacking the human body.

Piia touched, and influenced the lives of many in her community, her patients, her friends and family. She was a daughter, sister, aunt, and a fur mom. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
