Philip David Leaman, a cherished member of the community and a talented professional, has sadly passed away. Born on August 19, 1982, in Detroit, Michigan, Philip passed away on August 24, 2023, in Novi, Michigan.
Philip had an illustrious career in videography, culminating in his ownership of Standard Joy Productions. His many achievements in the field include collaborations with Martha Stewart, Sarah Carey, and Emeril Lagasse; filmed interviews with Henry Kissinger and Alan Alda; numerous celebrity videos in partnership with GQ Magazine including Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony; several Indy music videos, and award-winning submissions to the Copenhagen Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival and other notable film festivals.
Education played a vital role in Philip's life. He pursued his studies at several esteemed institutions, including Dartmouth College, St. John's University, Wayne State University, the University of Michigan in Dearborn and Ann Arbor campuses, Grenoble Alpes University, as well as the Rhode Island School of Design. Philip's thirst for knowledge knew no bounds, and he took every opportunity to expand his understanding and expertise.
Beyond his professional life, Philip was an individual of many interests and hobbies. An avid reader with an insatiable appetite for knowledge, he immersed himself in literature across a wide spectrum of subject matters and genres. His passion for literature ultimately transitioned into his devotion to film, both “classics” and new releases. He took joy in delving deeper into these worlds with his siblings and parents. His love for reading and film was matched only by his zest for capturing the “light of life” through his lens.
For “kicks” Philip enjoyed playing soccer with his two nephews Mac and Lincoln; an offshoot of his successful soccer years and Philip would never miss an opportunity for a “fun” game of chess, reminiscent of his brilliant competitive youth chess accomplishments.
Surviving Philip are his loving parents Larry and Cindy (Modreski) Leaman; siblings Stephanie (Chris) Pelton, Patrick (Diana) Leaman, and Peter (Megan Avery) Leaman. He held a special place in his heart for his nephew Mac Pelton, who had the honor of calling Philip his Godfather. Furthermore, he is survived by nephews Lincoln and Eli Pelton, and nieces Irene Pelton and Emily Leaman.
Among those mourning Philip's loss are his aunts and uncles Christine (Paul Logan) Leaman, Jerry (Debbie) Leaman, Bruce Leaman, Kevin (Kathy) Modreski, and Mark Leaman. Additionally, he leaves behind cherished cousins Delmar (Mikey Krug) Ahleong, Katie Leaman, Chrissy Ahleong, Kim Leaman, Ryan (Kimi) Modreski, Kelly (Scott) Donahue, Brittany (Ethan) Simmons, Sam Leaman, and Gina Leaman.
He leaves behind a legacy that will forever remain etched in their hearts. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Al and Betty Modreski and Harry and Stephanie Leaman. Additionally, aunt Mary Kathryn Ahleong, great aunts Irene and Anastasia Smolinski and cherished family friends, Katarina Goitz and Cathy Corona have also passed before him.
Philip David Leaman's inspirational spirit will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched. His legacy as a creative visionary in the world of video production will continue to inspire future generations. Philip's memory will live on through the love and admiration shared among family members and friends. May he rest in eternal peace.
