Nina E. Lobbestael

Nina E. Lobbestael passed away at the William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the age of 95. Nina was born in Calumet, Michigan, the daughter of John and Ida ( Sarkkinen ) Hendrickson on September 21, 1916. Her early years were spent in Calumet and then around the age of 18 she came to Detroit. After arriving in Detroit she worked as a house cleaner until she met her husband, Alfred Lobbestael. She then devoted her love and attention to her husband and her growing family of eleven children. Nina loved to grow roses, knit, crochet and read. Her love of reading lead her to volunteer at Jerry's Bookstore in Farmington Hills. At the age of 52 she graduated from Jones School of Nursing in Ann Arbor as a LPN and then worked at Beyer Memorial Hospital in Ypsilanti. She was also quite active in the LPN Association. After her husband retired from Ford Motor they farmed in Canton Township on Geddes Road growing soy beans. During her entire life she kept active in her church, The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. Nina lost her husband in 1982 but she is survived by her children, Elizabeth ( Kenneth ) Kangas, Judy ( Michael ) Endres, John ( Lynda ), David ( Miriam ), Sandy, Joe ( Fran ), Pauline, Janet ( Paul ) Granger, Barbara ( Tom ) Olund, Henry and Patrick. She also leaves numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and sister Laila Cichosz and Ana Mae ( Tom ) Koski and brother Sivert Hendrickson.

Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home on Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 4 - 8pm and Friday from 4 - 8pm. Visitation will continue at her church, The Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 34100 Eight Mile Road, Farmington Hills on Saturday from 1pm until the time of the funeral service at 2pm. Interment will follow at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Canton. Contributions are suggested to William Beaumont Hospice or to the church.
