Nicholas Morakeas, age 80 of Canton, passed away on June 3, 2020.
He was born on August 12, 1939 in Athens, Greece to his parents, Harry and Kleo (née Mavromati) Morakeas. After his arrival to the United States, Nicholas entered into the Military and proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 until 1964. In his free time, he was adamant about perfecting his golf swing; to the point that he would hit plastic golf balls in the house. During family vacations, he could be found on the golf course.
Nicholas is the beloved and devoted husband of 42 years to his wife, Patricia (née Olesky) Morakeas; loving father of three children – Chris (Kristie) Szostek, Bob (Jennifer) Marcus and Takis (Nikoleta) Morakeas; proud grandfather of seven grandchildren – Abby Szostek, Sophia Szostek, Kwame Atta-Nyamekye, Josephine Marcus, Constantine Marcus, Gregory Morakeas and Vasiliki Morakeas.
Friends may visit the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home 280 S. Main St Plymouth, MI on Friday June 5, 2020 from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. There will be a Trisagion Service at the Funeral Home that will be live-streamed on the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home website beginning at 8:00 P.M. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday June 6, 2020 at the Nativity of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church on 39851 Five Mile Road, Plymouth. Nicholas will be in-state at the Church from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed from the Church on the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home website. Following the Funeral Mass, Nicholas will be laid to rest at 1:00 P.M. at United Memorial Gardens, Superior Township.
