Myra June Jones

Myra June Jones, age 60 of Canton passed away on November 15, 2023.

She was born in Wayne, Michigan on June 3, 1963 to her parents, Charlotte (née Greene) and the late Frank Surbis.  She is the beloved and devoted mother of her son Joshua Jones and proud grandmother of Elliot, Julian and Myra Rose.  She is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her sister, Elyse Nazarek, her niece Danielle Nazarek and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Myra was a Special Education teacher for 34 years, retiring in 2020 from Dearborn Public Schools. During her long career, she had such a positive impact on the lives of so many students that several kept in contact with her even decades later. 

Throughout her life, Myra enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in St. Helen, going to casinos and day or weekend trips to new places. She loved spending time with her immediate and extended family, her beloved dog, "Polo", and she especially loved doting on her two precious grandsons who were her pride and joy. She was looking forward to the birth of her first grand-daughter, her namesake, who arrived two days after her passing, but for whom she is surely beaming with pride and guarding from above. 

Myra was a loving and selfless mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and aunt, who was always worried about her family’s well-being and tried to help in any way she could, even while she was suffering. She fought an extremely hard battle with absolute courage and grace. Myra is an inspiration to all of us and will remain forever in our hearts and minds. 

A Memorial Service for Myra will be held at a later date.
