Michael Edward Hubert, age 82 and lifelong resident of Michigan, passed away November 12, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan. Mike is survived by his four children, Kelly J. Scotti, Jeffrey D. Hubert, Matthew J. Hubert (Daphne), and Neil P. Hubert (Julie), his grandchildren Michael and Lauren Scotti, Porter Hubert, Sofia Hubert, and Brett and Taylor Hubert, his sister Antoinette Vellone, and nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Todd Christopher Hubert, his parents Edward and Grace Hubert, his son, his brother, Robert Hubert (Shirley), his brother-in-law Daniel Vellone, his nephew Chad Hubert, and his grandson Nicholas Scotti.
Mike was a 4-sport varsity letterman and a December 1959 graduate of Cody High School where he met many lifelong friends who fondly called him “Crane”. As a teenager in the late 50’s, Mike also capitalized on the opportunity to catch as many Detroit Tigers games as possible each summer as a seat duster. He went on to graduate from Wayne State University and became a pioneer in the Data Processing field. Throughout his lifetime, Mike was a dealer of fine art and antiquities, a voracious consumer of knowledge, an avid reader and researcher, a loyal Detroit sports fan, and supporter of the cultural arts and charities benefitting children’s health.
As a father, Mike encouraged his children to work to achieve their highest potential and would travel great distances to attend their activities and events. He provided support where needed and spoke love through his actions. His friends (and children) always knew where he stood on an issue and could count on him to be candid, passionate, and informative with a splash of humor. Mike was also a prolific storyteller - for the quality of the story and for the countless number of times he would tell the same ones. To the very end, Mike was a fighter and far stronger than his 150-pound frame would lead one to believe. Mike’s determination, perseverance, and resolve throughout his lifetime provided an admirable and appreciated legacy.
