Merlin Alexander Heft passed away May 7, 2017 at the age of 88. He was born April 24,1929 in Berkley, Michigan to Alexander and Ella Anna (Klages) Heft. He is deeply loved and will be missed by his wife Saxie, his daughter Karen (Tom) Lindblom, and his grandchildren Kristen and Thomas. Merlin graduated from Berkley High School and Wayne State University and attended Detroit College of Law. He worked his way through college teaching Ballroom Dancing. Merlin served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman, 1951-1953, during the Korean War, having spent his service time in the States. Merlin worked at State Farm Insurance Company for 38 years, retiring in 1996. He served as President of Detroit Adjusters Association. He was a life-time member of Plymouth Elks serving as Secretary of the House Committee or 10 years. He was also a member of Plymouth Theatre Guild, now Spotlight Players and a Life-Time member of the Dearborn Theatre Guild. He was a member and Layman at Newburg United Methodist Church. Merlin also served on the Board of Directors of the Haggerty Woods Association for 10 years. He enjoyed bowling, dancing (ballroom and Country Line), plants and gardening. He especially loved spending time with his family. He will be missed by many.
A Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, May 10, 2017, 11AM at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth. Friends may visit Tuesday 4PM until 8PM. Memorials in Merlin’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
