Merle E. Minehart of Plymouth, passed away October 23, 2017 at the age of 96. She was born in Plymouth, on September 1, 1921 to Guy and Esther (nee Burger) Fisher. Merle was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 1986. Merle is survived by her loving children Maureen (Ronald) Huysman, Lee (Irene) Minehart, and Larry (Sharon) Minehart, her precious grandchildren Tracie (Jeff), Larry Jr. (Dawn), Eric (Cheryl), Aaron (Beth), and Christie (Scott), and her 10 great grandchildren. Merle was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, second husband Jim, both of her parents Guy and Esther, and her 5 brothers and sisters.
Merle was a graduate of Plymouth High School in 1939. She married Ralph in 1941 and they were blessed with 3 beloved children. Merle worked as an office administrator for the former Governor of North Carolina, Robert Scott. She also worked for the automobile plant in Plymouth, Welduction. In 1956, Merle was in the newspaper as a nominee for Mother of the Year. She was an active member at 1st United Methodist Church of Plymouth and was involved in many organizations through the Church. Merle also enjoyed her time in her women’s bowling league. Her favorite hobby was to sew and quilt blankets. Merle made many blankets over the years for all the members of her family. She was a wonderful woman who will be sorely missed by many.
Visitation will be Monday, October 30, from 1-2pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, 48170. Her Funeral Service will immediately follow visitation beginning at 2pm. Merle will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery beside her beloved Ralph.
