Matthew passed away at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 after a brief illness at the age of 94. He was born in Detroit on February 19, 1917 the son of Charles and Katherine (Baroth) Gayney. He, along with his father and brother, operated the Gayney Company which was an electrical and design company. After the business was closed Mike worked for the Farber Cycle Company, a bicycle distributor firm. Mike loved baseball, both playing the game and watching the Tigers. He also enjoyed golf, bowling and traveling with his wife Olive to Florida. The love of his life, Olive passed away in 2004 after 62 years of marriage. He is the dear father of Laurie(Bill)Kemppainen, Kathleen(Stan)Zarosly, Sharon Gayney and the late Patrick, Timothy and Jean Grace. Dearest grandfather of 10, great grandfather of 21 and great great grandfather of 2.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011, from 11:30am until time of the funeral mass at 12:30pm at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Road, ( South of Five Mile Road ) Plymouth. Contributions are suggested to Angela Hospice.
