Mary A. Majka, of Canton, passed away June 11, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born July 10, 1922 in Detroit to Stanley and Honorata Lesniak. Mary was the beloved wife of the late Stanley Majka, and survived by her dear children, Ronald and Lorraine, loving sister of Rose (the late Joseph) Woch, Stanley (Dorothy) Lesniak, and the late Irene (the late Frank) Tarczynski, and many nieces and nephews.
Growing up, Mary was a member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish in Southwest Detroit and attended Elementary School there, and went on to Girls Vocational School for a couple years. Her first jobs included working at the main J. L. Hudson store, the IRS office in downtown Detroit, and the Cadillac plant. She married Stanley Majka on October 23, 1948 and later moved to a house on Rutherford Street on Detroit's west side, where she raised 2 children, Ronald and Lorraine. As a housewife in the 1950's and 1960's, she enjoyed cooking - especially Polish meals, keeping a spotless home, and family functions. There were annual vacations to cottages up north and to Irish Hills, always accompanied by her sister Rose's family and her parents.
After both children went on to college, she re-entered the workforce as a Sales Clerk at Sears at the new Fairlane Mall in Dearborn, where her other sister, Irene also worked. She and Stanley moved to Canton Township in 1978 and lived there for most of her later years. She enjoyed playing cards, eating at Three Brothers Restaurant, hitting the slot machines and contributing to HSN and QVC. She always enjoyed the finer things in life, but also had a humble side to her. She passed away peacefully one month shy of her 94th Birthday. Sto-Lat!
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 14, from 1-8pm with a Rosary Service at 7:30pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main Street, Plymouth, 48170.
