Marsha Katherine Day, a resident of the Plymouth community for over forty years, passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 78 after years of living with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on April 18, 1946 in Detroit, Marsha was the daughter of John and Mary Burton, who preceded her in death.
Throughout her life, Marsha was known for her vibrant personality that shone through her work and interactions with others. She was incredibly social and outgoing, making many friends effortlessly and leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Marsha’s warmth and creativity enriched the lives of those around her.
A graduate of Pershing High School in Detroit, Marsha went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Alma College. She was a teacher, teaching second grade in her early years and later as a regular substitute teacher at Plymouth Canton high schools. Over the course of her life, Marsha traveled and lived in various locations, including England and Canada, each place adding to her array of experiences. She served the communities she lived in through a dedication to volunteerism giving her time to such organizations as a crisis line, the Canadian White Cross and the Plymouth Historical Museum.
Beyond the classroom, she valued the importance of artistic expression and creativity. Marsha loved creating silk flower arrangements, watching classic films and attending musicals and theater events, particularly enjoying trips to see performances at the Stratford Festival. She enjoyed travel and vacations with family, especially the Disney cruises she took with her grandchildren. An avid reader, Marsha explored all genres of literature, captivating her imagination and fueling her creative spirit. Her curiosity and love for learning were evident to all who knew her.
Marsha is survived by her devoted husband Jim, their daughter Anya (Matt) Day-Poljanac, and her cherished grandchildren Landon and Adelaide Poljanac, all of Plymouth, Michigan. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret McKay, of Folsom, California.
Marsha Katherine Day's legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched with her love, creativity, and dedication. She will be deeply missed and always remembered by her family and friends.
