Mark Christiansen, a beloved member of the Plymouth community, passed away on November 15, 2023, at the age of 75.
Born in Detroit on March 17, 1948, to loving parents Marvin and Elizabeth Christiansen, he was their cherished son and a devoted brother to his sister, Karen, who was born with cerebral palsy. When their parents passed, Karen always leaned on Mark, who loved her unconditionally.
Mark is survived by the apple of his eye, daughter Lauren Christiansen, the love of his life, Sandy Groth, and cousins Terri Johnson and Vicki Johnson Hauslohner. He is an honorary grandpa to Jacob, Emily, and Lillian Carney, and his love for his family knew no bounds.
After serving in the Army Reserves, Mark graduated from the University of Michigan (Alpha Delta Phi), and was a lifelong Michigan Wolverines Football fan. His love for sports was known by all who knew him and he found Pure Michigan joy living in our beautiful Great Lakes state.
Most notably, Mark was the longtime Finance Director for the City of Plymouth, “the best place he ever worked, with the best team of employees he ever had the chance to work with.”
Finally, Mark was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Colonial Plymouth, where he proudly promoted goodwill in service to the members of his community and the children of the world. Those who wish to honor the memory of Mark are invited to consider a contribution to Kiwanis Club of Colonial Plymouth, P.O. Box 5531, Plymouth, MI 48170. Contribution envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
Mark’s memorial services will take place at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home located at 280 S. Main St. in Plymouth, Michigan. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on November 19, 2023. Following this, a Celebration of Life event will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Special Message from Lauren and Sandy: For Mark's services, everyone is welcome to "come as they are." We want everyone to wear what they want (as long as it's not Ohio State apparel).
