Marilynn G. Adams, age 93 of Novi, Michigan passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018.
Marilynn was born on August 26, 1924 in Cresco, Iowa to her parents, Dr. Thomas and Hazel (nee Bellows) Lund. She is the beloved and devoted wife of the late Harold Adams who passed away on May 6, 1999. Dear mother of five daughters, Linda (John) Venning, Bonnie (Charlie) Allen, Donna (Matthew) Brooks, Diane (Dr. Steven) Klein and Judy Adams. Proud grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 12. Loving sister to Maureen Volkening and many nieces and nephews.
Marilynn was an accomplished artist – not only as it related to her love of music, but also to her lovely hand-scripted calligraphy, beautiful tole painting and the creation of Christmas ornaments that were worthy of display at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
Whether she was performing or teaching piano lessons, Marilynn shared her craft with everyone who was fortunate enough to hear her play. She had a way of being able to make her students fall in love with the piano like she did and, it brought her so much joy. She shared her wonderful gift at numerous events and at her church. Along with her love of music, Marilynn’s artistic talents were also shown in her tole painting. Many of her folk art-painted projects have become beloved family objects that clearly show the quality of her art, her personalization and a story behind each painted piece.
Marilynn was also a very proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution – a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a person involved in the United States’ efforts towards independence and work to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism.
One year ago, Marilynn made the statement, “this will be my last birthday.” She passed away one day before her 94th birthday. Because of her great love of family and recognition of the blessings she has enjoyed during her long life, she decided for her last birthday to have a party to not only celebrate her life, but also the lives of all of her family and friends who were near and dear to her. A party that didn’t just have cake and ice cream, but would also have a petting zoo. Once again, Marilynn’s creativity came shining through with an extravaganza of birthday activities to delight all ages. It could have been described as a birthday party extraordinaire designed in a way as it could only be by Marilynn.
