Maria was born in Hungary on July 12, 1932 the daughter of Marton and Margit Pinter. All her formal schooling was in Hungary and she married her husband, Tibor Matyas there.
In 1956, she fled Hungary along with her husband and their first daughter, Audrey during the time of the Hungarian Revolution. They arrived in the United States, first in Kentucky, then Virginia and ending their journey in Michigan in 1964. Her husband was a mechanical engineer working in metals and railroad car construction while she remained a devoted wife and mother to her growing family. Maria had many varied interests including quilting, knitting, Bingo and many different card games.
She had been a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church and, for the past many years, a resident of Tonquish Creek Manor here in Plymouth where she had many loving friends. Her husband, Tibor passed away in 1994 and, she is survived by her children, Audrey ( Terry ) Roberts, Suzanne ( Keith ) Tramel, Tom Matyas and David Matyas. Nine grandchildren, Jessica ( Kenny ) Todd, Ian ( Julie ) Roberts, Ashley Roberts, Nicole ( Mitch ) Watkins, Robin Tramel and Alex Tramel, Corey Matyas, Taylor and Abigail Matyas, four great-grandchildren, Julian, Madeline, Victoria and Emily and brother, Laci Pinter also survive.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth on Saturday, August 26. 2017 from 1 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 3 pm.
