Marguerite O. Evans passed away at her home on May 3, 2012. In March, Marguerite had celebrated her 102nd birthday. She was born in Livonia, Michigan on March 2, 1910, the daughter of Otto C. and Anna B. ( Wolff ) Melow. Around the age of four, her parents moved to Plymouth where she resided most of her life. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1928 and during her high school years she had played on the women's basketball team. She was known as a pioneer in women's basketball and on her 100th birthday she was honored by the Plymouth Schools for this milestone. She worked at Blunk's Clothing in Plymouth where she meet her husband Leslie whom she married in 1939. Leslie passed away in 1964. Marguerite interests included sewing, crosswords and gardening. She loved her cats and loved and cared for her family. She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Plymouth. She is survived by her daughter Susan ( Steven Lyons ) Evans. Also surviving are nephews, David (Diane) Melow, Karl (Sandy) Melow, Michael (Paula) Britcher and Keith (Eileen) Evans and niece Marlene Britcher. Many great and great great nieces and nephews also survive. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10am until time of the funeral service at 3pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth. Contributions are suggested to the Michigan Humane Society or Angela Hospice.
