Margaret Ryan, age 98 of Plymouth passed away on August 22nd. Margaret is the beloved wife of the late Robert E. Ryan who passed away in 1985, and the devoted mother of Michael Ryan and Mary Anne Ryan. She is preceded in death by her siblings, Kay Sibigtroth, Madeline Boucher, John Mueller, Leo Mueller, George Mueller, Harry Mueller, Caroline Tripicchio and Marian Starck. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
If you were a student in Plymouth during the 1980s and 90s, you may have known Robert and Margaret Ryan. They were the crossing guards for many, many years at the corner of North Territorial and Sheldon Roads in Plymouth. They cheerfully interacted and guided and protected young children at this intersection mornings, noon and after-school. No matter what the weather, hot or cold, rain or snow, traffic would be stopped so the children could cross safely. They were always there to say something nice to the children and make their corner a place where each child felt special. And, even after Robert passed away in 1985, Margaret continued on-the-job for many years later while watching “her children” come and go.
Margaret was an avid Detroit sports fan. She loved the Detroit Red Wings and Tigers. But she especially held a special place in her heart for the Chicago Cubs.
