Margaret P. Friel, age 77 of Canton, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021 at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was born on December 2, 1943 in Smethwick, England to her parents James and Elizabeth Swindall. She is the loving and devoted wife of the late James Francis Friel, Jr.; beloved mother of Erin (Melissa) Friel and Carrie (Roberta Oswald) Friel; proud grandmother of Maria, James, Brody, Liam and Jaelyn Friel; and dear sister of John Swindall and Anne Swindle. Margaret is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families, as well as extended family from Michigan to Colorado and California. Margaret is deeply loved by all, and will be missed greatly.
Margaret had a tremendous zest for life and was constantly on the go. From her jobs at Detroit Edison and CVS (which she worked up until June of this year), to attending to her five grandchildren, she never stopped. Grammy, as she was known to her grandchildren, would do anything and everything for them as they meant the world to her. Margaret also had the gift to make friends everywhere she went and would greet everyone with “dear” or “honey.” After 20 years of being apart, Margaret & James are reunited once again in heaven and they are now together forever.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home 280 South Main St, Plymouth, MI on Thursday, August 12th at 7:00pm. The family will begin to receive friends and family at 3:00pm until time of service.
Following the service, please join the family of Margaret P. Friel at Stella's Trackside Restaurant, 885 Starkweather Street, Plymouth for a gathering of her friends and family and to spend time remembering Margaret.
