Kenneth Leon Green

Kenneth Leon Green passed away at Angela Hospice in Livonia on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the age of 88. Kenn was born in Summersville, West Virginia on April 10, 1927 - the son of Orval and Velma ( nee O'Dell ) Green. He completed his schooling, graduating from Summersville High School. Upon graduation, Kenn enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and proudly served in the weapons company of the 22nd Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division. He saw service in Guam, Saipan, Tinian, Ulithi, and combat in Okinawa. His unit participated in the surrender of Japanese forces in the area of Tsingtao, China on October 25, 1945. After his discharge from the Marines, Kenn returned to West Virginia where he worked for a period of time in the coal mines. In 1953, he came to the Detroit area where he went to work for the Ford Motor Company. He worked at the Rouge Plant and ended his career at Wayne Assembly as a Production Superintendent, retiring after 32 years of service in 1982. Camping and fishing were favorite pastimes for Kenn, his wife, Ruth and the family. They traveled near and far in their motor home. He is survived by his children, James Leon ( Nancy ) Green, Judith Gray. Marsha Green and Michael W. Green, nine grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, sister Wilma L. McClung along with his "chosen daughters", Jeane Abbott, Catherine Constantine and Nancy Nelson also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, longtime companion, Jean Wells and son Robert G. Green. Visitation will be held at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 2 pm until 4 pm at which time a Masonic service will be held under the direction of the Wayne-Westland Lodge # 112, F. & A.M. The funeral service will be held immediately following the Masonic service officiated by Pastor Dean Johnson from Lake Pointe Bible Church of Plymouth. Immediately following the funeral service the United States Marine Corps will perform Military Honors. Later he will be laid to rest beside his wife at Parkview Cemetery in Livonia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made in Kenn's memory to Wounded Warrior Project Fund, American Cancer Society or Angela Hospice.
