Karen Jean Veresh was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan on September 12, 1956 to the late Edward and Irene (nee Matthews) Veresh. She was raised in Northville, Michigan. At age 41, Karen moved to Livonia Opportunity House where she enjoyed living until August 2017. She resided at Milburn House in Livonia until her death on May 21, 2018.
Karen attended school until she was 26 years old. She was employed at STEP – Services To Enhance Potential for many years. Karen bowled in leagues with her friends and was a participant in Special Olympics for bowling and swimming events.
Karen loved all things about life. She loved Church, Jesus, and singing hymns. She was Baptized and joined First Baptist/Praise Baptist Church in Plymouth, when she was young. Family was very important to Karen. She loved her friends and extended COC – Community Opportunity Center family. She loved holidays, birthdays, parties, presents, dances, jewelry, clothes, hats, flowers, and sunshine.
Karen leaves behind her loving mother Irene who was with her holding her hand until the end. Also survived by her sister Kathy Veresh and brother Dave (Jan) Veresh, two special nephews Tim Veresh, and Brad Toombs, a niece and a nephew, an aunt and uncle, and many cousins. Karen joins her father Edward, grandparents and many other family members in heaven. She was her dad’s sweetheart.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation and thanks to COC, especially to those staff members who worked so many extra hours to provide Karen the loving care she needed to pass with comfort and dignity.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 24, from 5-8pm at the Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 S. Main St., Plymouth, 48170. Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, May 26, at 11am at Praise Baptist Church, 45000 N. Territorial Road, Plymouth, 48170. Memorial donations in Karen’s memory may be made to the Community Opportunity Center 14147 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI 48154.
