Julia Rose Szajnecki, age 94, passed away at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. She was born in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Kapeluch) Meck, on November 5, 1917. Julia resided in Pennsylvania until the age of 19, graduating from Hanover High School. In 1936, she married Edmund Szajnecki, and they moved to the Detroit area. Julia worked for J. L. Hudson's in the women's lingerie department both in the downtown Detroit store and also in Westland, retiring in the early 1980's after 25 years of service. In the cooler months she loved being at her home in the Boynton Beach area of Florida. She loved card games, Bingo and knitting. In 1970, she lost her husband, Edmund, after 36 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughters, Rose (Patrick) Houle and Carol (Donald) Weigand. Five grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be held at Schrader-Howell Funeral Home, 280 South Main Street, Plymouth, on Thursday from 3pm until 8pm. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 3, 2012, from 10am until the time of her funeral Mass at 11am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 44800 Warren Road, Canton. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.
